Questions & Answers

How do I get a quote?

We work directly with businesses as a fabricator of countertops. We recommend providing as much information as possible so we can understand your expectations and exceed them.

Where can I select my slabs?

You can visit our showroom where we proudly display samples from our industry partners, our stock quartz, or you can select material at any of the Portland area slab distributors.

Do you stock any material?

For in-stock quartz slabs we have several different styles listed on our Stock Quartz page. You can also find a wide range of remnants from previous projects to use in your own project.

What is a honed vs. polished surface?

Stone finishes give the surface its final look in terms of tactility (feel and touch), light reflection, and overall coming together of color and pattern. It is determined by the depth of grounding the slab undergoes in its final stages. Honed is a more matted sheen that has a flat, smoother texture, while polished gives off a highly reflective, bright shine.

Who are quartz surfaces for?

Quartz is for anyone who appreciates stunning design and outstanding quality.
Whether you’re a professional interior designer, an architect, or simply keen to embark on a home design project, Apex Countertops can help you create something truly unique.

What stone materials do you offer?

We proudly provide several stone types so that we can maintain the most variety. Some of our stone types include: Quartz, Porcelain, Quartzite, & Natural Stone such as Granite, Limestone, Marble, Soapstone, Gabbro, Slate. Quartz and granite lead as our most popular options due to the elegance they show off in any home.

What is Quartz?

Quartz surfaces are man-made engineered stones, combining up to 90% raw quartz crystals with numerous resin binders and dashes of pigment dyes, all pressed together using innovative patented technology that produces a range of incredibly durable and superbly beautiful quartz surfaces.

Quartz mineral is as common as sand, yet tougher than steel, with a hardness of 7 compared with the 10 of a diamond(Mohs scale). Resistant to stains, scratches and cracks, quartz is impervious to heat and cold and to common household chemicals.

Quartz surfaces combine form and function, allowing for the most diverse, durable, and practical applications. Our surfaces retain the cool, tactile qualities of natural stone, while offering design freedom with almost unlimited application possibilities in hygienic, durable, and beautiful surfaces.

What are the types of countertop edges?

The 4 main types of profiles are straight, quarter round, full bullnose, and quarter bevel. Each has it’s own unique look however, straight edges are the most popular because they fit well into any kitchen or bathroom design. While there are over a dozen options to choose from when it comes to profiles, we mainly focus on the ones people are most happy with.

What products to avoid in protecting quartz?

Avoid strong chemicals and solvents, and strong acids or alkalis, oxidizers or similar materials, regardless of pH. Avoid harsh cleaning products such as: oven/grill cleaners, dishwasher detergent, floor strippers, oil soaps, paint removers/strippers, etc. or any products containing trichloroethane or methylene chloride. Avoid products containing oils as they may leave a residue. All products should be rinsed off thoroughly. If the surface comes into contact with any products that might damage it, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Check each cleaning product first on an inconspicuous area to ensure it doesn’t damage the surface.

How to care for dark surfaces?

Dark surfaces may need a little more daily maintenance since they are characteristically more prone to showing signs of daily use than light surfaces. All dark surfaces tend to be more sensitive to noticeable scratch marks and should be protected from sharp objects. A patina may be more visible on dark models, so wipe away liquid spills and don’t let them dry out on the surface. Use of cream-textured cleaning products is not recommended on dark surfaces, check first on an
inconspicuous area.

Can I place a hot pan on my surface?

Most stone can withstand very brief exposure to moderate heat, however, any stone material can potentially be damaged by sudden and rapid temperature changes, especially near the edges. Therefore, the best way to prevent discoloration or cracking is to use inexpensive and readily available trivets, especially when using cooking units such as electric frying pans, crock pots or toaster ovens. Do not put hot cookware directly on the surface.
